My landscape paintings originate in my mind. They are based on observation and later on memories and experiences. While maintaining a visual vocabulary that is both fresh and thoughtful I construct a painting in multiple layers of generously applied oil paint. My evolving composition and intuitive selection of color is best described as a two-way conversation between me and my painting. We speak and react to each other until we agree the painting is complete.

My whimsical paintings soften the boundary between abstract and non-representational art. Typically the subject is an imaginative narrative where I find my inspiration from the iconic shapes of every day objects. Similar to outsider art my compositions are characterized by a naivety of shapes, a flattening of space and a total disregard to scale and proportion.
