Contemporary landscape + ABSTRACT PAINTER

Growing up in Birmingham, Michigan, Jane was exposed to painting and drawing at an early age. She remembers attending classes at the Birmingham Community House where the seed for her visual expression was planted. Jane continued to follow her love for the visual arts and received a BFA in Graphic Design in 1977 from the College for Creative Studies in Detroit Michigan.

After 20 years as the successful head of a graphic design firm in Phoenix, Arizona, Jane shifted her focus to her first love, painting. She was offered a full scholarship in the Masters of Painting program at Arizona State University, earning her MFA degree in 2004. During this period Jane learned that great painting technique is not taught, but is discovered, encouraged and refined through experimentation and process. Jane's unique artistic voice which craved expression developed volume and clarity. Inspired by Pierre Bonnard, Edvard Vuillard, Joan Mitchell and Henri Matisse, Jane’s unique gestural style, impasto brushwork and colorful yet complex palette evolved. Following her studies, Jane received numerous grants, residencies and invitations from galleries.

Jane Schmidt is at the height of her career as a landscape painter. Her work has exhibited at museums and universities throughout the country and Jane has twice been invited to the esteemed Florence Biennale. She has become known for her bold and colorful painting style and for her imaginative interpretation of landscapes and objects of interest. Jane’s work is eagerly sought by arts enthusiasts and can be found in prestigious private and corporate collections.
