ITALY SERIES

Recently I took advantage of a wonderful opportunity to travel to Italy. Most of my travels found me in the picturesque countrysides of Umbria and Tuscany and during a good portion of that time I participated in a painting workshop at Castiglione Del Lago. Although I’m not typically a plein air painter, I couldn’t resist the urge to set up in the countryside and truly experience the Tuscon palette of early autumn. For the first time in many years, I opted to paint with gouache, a watercolor medium that is characteristically opaque in nature. I also ventured with my favorite medium, oils and found endless scenic vistas waiting to be interpreted on canvas.
